History of the 2 x Christmas campaign

    30th anniversary

    The 2 x Christmas campaign celebrates its 30th anniversary. For 30 years, support has been provided for people living in poverty in both Switzerland and abroad in a huge wave of solidarity from donors.

  2. 2017

    Innovations and developments

    The 2 x Christmas campaign develops over time. It still only collects toiletries and food with a long shelf life, but to simplify the logistics donated goods remain in Switzerland, while cash donations are used for aid abroad. Coop becomes an official campaign partner.

  3. 2016

    New ways to support the campaign

    The coop.ch parcels provide a new, easy way to donate to the campaign.

  4. 2010

    Record year

    With a total of 454 tonnes of goods donated, the campaign reaches a record high, illustrating the Swiss population’s enormous solidarity.

  5. 2008

    Cash donations added

    As well as donations of goods, cash donations are now accepted, enabling aid to be channelled in a more flexible and targeted way, particularly abroad.

  6. 2002

    Official brand

    2 x Christmas is registered as a brand in the Swiss trade mark registry and becomes more broadly known.

  7. 1997

    An idea is born

    Shortly before Christmas, the editorial offices of the then Radio DRS (now SRF) had an idea for the 2 x Christmas campaign: passing on gifts you don’t need yourself, simply sending them by post and, ideally, free of charge. The campaign was launched in partnership with Swiss Post and the Swiss Red Cross. From the very outset, thousands of people of people took part: more than 35 000 parcels were collected, becoming the foundation for a long campaign of solidarity.
